In order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), starting March 17, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., the Brownsville Public Library System will suspend all services at both the Main and Southmost branches until further notice. Due dates for checked out items will be extended and fines will not accrue during this time. This suspension includes all public programs, events and room rentals. We request patrons keep library materials until our facilities resume services.
Please remember that all digital resources will continue to be available to patrons 24/7 through the Brownsville Public Library System’s web site (https://www.bpl.us) and related services apps. Our services include:

The library will be closed until further notice. City leadership will determine when the library as a City Department can safely reopen.
2. Where can we find updates on library services?
You can visit the library’s official website at www.bpl.us
3. Can I return my library items?
Please hold onto items, enjoy them a little longer, and return them when the library reopens.
4. What if I have a fine?
Due dates for checked out items will be extended and fines will not accrue during this time.
5. My library card is about to expire. How can I renew it?
All library cards will remain active during our time of closure.
6. What will happen to my holds?
Any items that are currently on hold will remain there during closure. They will remain on hold for a week after we reopen. Pending hold requests will not be processed during the closure.
7. What will happen to my meeting room reservations?
Please contact us by email to begin the refund process. You may also request credit on your account for the cost of the reservation.
8. Can interlibrary loan requests be made?
Interlibrary loan requests will be postponed until library reopens.
9. What online resources are available?
Our main online resources are as follows: Axis 360, rbdigital, Tutor.com, Universal Class, Newspaper Archives, Mango Languages, and Knowledge City. For more online resources, please visit our website at www.bpl.us.
10. Can I get a library card online?
You can apply for the card online and obtain the physical card when we reopen. Applying on-line doesn’t allow you access to our services.
11. What if I forget my pin number?
The default PIN number for your card is the last four numbers of the library card unless you have set it otherwise.
12. Where are we able to donate materials?
The library will not be taking donations during our time of closure.
13. Do I disregard notifications from BPL Public?
All notifications regarding due dates and fines can be addressed when the library reopens.
14. Will the book drop still be open?
The book drop will be closed during our time of closure.
15. Can I still print wirelessly?
No. All library services have been cancelled until further notice with the exception of online services.
16. When will library programming start up again?
Library programming will resume when city administration allows it.
17. Can I still complete community service hours at the library?
All community and volunteer service programs with the library are suspended until further notice.
18. What number do I call for issues with online services?
Some of our online services provide support lines. Please refer to the respective app or web site for assistance.
