Brownsville Bike Barn

The Brownsville Bike Barn is an initiative to support and promote bicycling in Brownsville. Their operation began with a donation of bicycles from Austin’s Yellow Bike Project that were in need of repairs. With the assistance of the City of Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department, the Brownsville Bike Barn was launched in 2013 at 624 E. Madison Street. Completely, 100% operated by volunteers and community support, the Bike Barn is home to the Rio Grande Valley’s only Recycle-A-Bicycle and Earn-A-Bike program. These programs allow community members/organizations to donate used/unwanted bicycles so that others (all ages) can earn these bicycles through 25 hours of volunteer service. Volunteer service generally consists of repairing used bicycles, working in the garden, and assisting at city events.
