BROWNSVILLE, Texas (March 13, 2017) – City of Brownsville Management Information Systems (MIS) Department Network Administrator Luis Alberto “Albert” Castillo was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Walk of Fame on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, during BorderFest 2017 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

The RGV Walk of Fame celebrates life achievements and civic contributions of outstanding men and women from all walks of life to communities in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas.

MIS Network Administrator Albert Castillo was among 38 individuals selected by the RGV Walk of Fame Commission to be inducted into the RGV Walk of Fame. Individuals were selected based on nominations from cities and chambers in the Rio Grande Valley.

Castillo has been employed with the MIS Department since 2000. In January 2016, he was named Employee of the Month, and in December 2016, he was named 2016 Employee of the Year.

Castillo was nominated for the RGV Walk of Fame by the City of Brownsville for his 17 years of public service and over ten years of volunteer service; since 2007, Castillo has served as Volunteer Coach for the San Benito Youth Flag Football League, coaching children from 5 to 12 years of age.

“I’m honored and humbled to have been inducted into the RGV Walk of Fame,” said Castillo. “Through football, we’re able to teach youth valuable lessons about teamwork, respect, and discipline. If they can learn to exhibit these qualities in the field, it can ultimately help them in school, at home, and in life.”

“Albert serves as an outstanding role model for his peers, for the community, and for the entire Rio Grande Valley,” said Brownsville City Manager Charlie Cabler. “In addition to his countless years of service with the City of Brownsville, he is honored for his mentorship service and dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of our youth.”
